It’s been a rough week for stocks, so maybe not the best time to do this, but I’m committed to tracking market cap and other stats at the end of every month.
The market seems to be headed back up Thursday as I write this. However, there are a number of macroeconomic trends impacting stocks this week, like the surging bond yields and oil prices continuing to rise.
Angi was the only company on the index that was up month-over-month. The price had been on the rise since September 10th, but it seems likely their new CEO announcement may have helped it climb higher.
Comparison Sites Not A-Mused
There’s been a lot of buzz around Facebook’s Muse. There’s a lot of noise around it “killing” comparison sites. I believe there are certain markets with very transparent pricing where that’s likely to happen.
I heard one hypothesis that in a space like Insurance, the carriers will simply not put real/scrapable rates on their sites to close the loop. Not sure how it’ll play out, but it does seem like the timing also hurt a lot of companies on the Lead Index who make money helping consumers buy products with opaque pricing like insurance.
Notes on Methodology
Companies are only required to disclose the number of employees on the annual filing or 10-K. It is not required on quarterly reports (10-Q), so the data will generally have a bit of a lag. I use employee numbers for general analysis like revenue per employee, etc. Zillow also had a layoff in August of ~500 employees, which is not reflected in the tally as of 12/31/25.
Revenue is based on the full year 2025.
